Carbon Reduction Policy

Cybnode is committed to operating in a responsible and environmentally conscious manner. As a small but growing technology company specialising in cybersecurity and software development, we understand that our activities, although primarily digital, still have an environmental impact. This policy sets out our approach to reducing that impact and promoting sustainable growth.

1. Purpose

Our long-term goal is to embed sustainability into our business model so that our expansion benefits not only our clients but also the wider environment. In the future, Cybnode intends to align its environmental management practices with the principles of ISO 14001, with the aim of achieving certification as the company continues to develop and mature.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all areas of Cybnode's business operations, including our offices, cloud infrastructure, and staff activities across the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Poland. It also extends to employee commuting, business travel, procurement of goods and services, and partnerships with suppliers. Every member of the Cybnode team has a role to play in ensuring that our environmental commitments are upheld in day-to-day operations.

3. Policy Statement

At Cybnode, we believe that digital innovation should never come at the expense of the planet. We are committed to minimising our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices in everything we do. While we recognise that we are still a small business with limited direct emissions, we are determined to take meaningful and measurable steps towards long-term carbon reduction.

We aim to create an organisational culture that values environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and continuous improvement. Our decisions, whether operational, technical, or strategic, will be guided by their environmental impact and contribution to a more sustainable future.

4. Objectives

Cybnode's primary objective is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, ensuring that our growth remains environmentally sustainable. As a milestone on this journey, we aim to reduce our direct emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 30 per cent by 2030, using 2025 as the baseline year.

In addition, we plan to progressively develop our internal systems and reporting processes to align with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System framework. Although full certification may not be immediately achievable due to our size, we are committed to building the foundations necessary to reach this standard within the coming decade.

We also commit to reviewing and reporting on our environmental performance annually, using this information to guide further improvements.

5. Carbon Reduction Measures

Cybnode's approach to carbon reduction focuses on practical actions that reflect our operational reality. In our offices, we are transitioning to renewable electricity sources, with a target of achieving full use of renewable power by 2026. We are replacing older equipment with more energy-efficient alternatives and encouraging all employees to power down computers and monitors when not in use. Our preference for digital documentation and communication also helps to reduce paper waste and material consumption.

Within our core technical operations, we work to ensure that the cloud infrastructure and digital systems we use are as efficient as possible. We partner with providers that operate carbon-neutral or low-emission data centres and regularly review our hosting arrangements to ensure they meet environmental standards. We also design and optimise our software in ways that reduce computational demand, improving both performance and sustainability.

As a company that embraces remote and flexible working, we have significantly reduced the need for daily commuting. For situations where travel is necessary, we encourage the use of public transport or other low-emission options, and we are exploring opportunities to offset unavoidable travel through verified carbon offset schemes.

When selecting suppliers and partners, Cybnode gives preference to those that can demonstrate strong environmental commitments and sustainable practices. We aim to build long-term relationships with organisations that share our values and contribute positively to our collective carbon reduction goals.

Finally, we recognise that sustainability begins with awareness. Cybnode will continue to engage staff in environmental initiatives and provide regular information about how individual choices, such as energy saving, recycling, and responsible purchasing, can make a difference. We want every member of our team to feel empowered to take part in building a greener workplace.

6. Monitoring and Reporting

Cybnode will monitor its environmental performance and carbon footprint on an ongoing basis. Each year, we will assess our direct energy use, business travel, and other relevant operational factors to understand where reductions can be made. The results of these assessments will inform our internal sustainability reviews and help guide the next steps of our carbon reduction strategy.

We are committed to being transparent about our progress and limitations. As the company grows, we will work towards producing a more formal annual sustainability report and expanding our monitoring to include key indirect emissions (Scope 3). This process will also help us prepare for future compliance with ISO 14001.

7. Governance

Responsibility for the implementation of this policy lies with the Sustainability Lead, who is appointed by the Cybnode Executive Team. The Sustainability Lead will oversee the delivery of this policy, coordinate carbon reduction efforts across the company, and report annually to the Executive Board on progress.

Cybnode will ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations, including the UK Net Zero Strategy and the EU Green Deal. The Board will review any updates to national or regional environmental requirements to ensure that our policies remain current and effective.

8. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if Cybnode undergoes significant operational changes or if new environmental regulations require it. As technology evolves and our company grows, we will continue to refine our approach, adopting new tools and practices that further reduce our carbon impact and strengthen our readiness for ISO 14001 certification.
